Arcee

Arcee is the Autobot warrior introduced in The Transformers: The Movie and one of the few female Transformers in G1 fiction with a sustained role. Writer Ron Friedman pushed for her inclusion over resistance from the production side, and she was created roughly ten months before the separate Female Autobots of "The Search for Alpha Trion."

Her first act in the movie is military rather than decorative: she and Springer transform Autobot City into battle-station mode on Ultra Magnus's order during the 2005 Decepticon assault, buying the time reinforcements need. She survives Megatron's blitz, is part of the small force that escapes to the Planet of Junk, and fights through to Cybertron for the final battle with Unicron. Throughout the film her stated priority is the safety of Daniel Witwicky, the human child who has ended up on the mission.

That protectiveness defines her through season 3. She is a capable close-quarters fighter and one of the better marksmen in the ranks, but she is repeatedly the Autobot detailed to the vulnerable civilians. In "The Dweller in the Depths" she and Ultra Magnus are the only two to escape the tunnels and get the warning back to Rodimus in time; in "Only Human" her mind is transferred into a synthoid human body by the crime lord Victor Drath, and when she gets back to Autobot City to warn the Autobots nobody recognises her and she is locked in a cell.

Her arc closes in "The Rebirth," where Daniel is critically injured saving her from Snapdragon and needs an exosuit to survive. She chooses him as her Headmaster partner, calling him her dearest friend.

Expert in hand-to-hand combat and one of the best sharpshooters on record, with a pink car alternate mode and a blaster; later binary-bonded with Daniel Witwicky as a Headmaster. She is smaller and more lightly built than most of the Autobot line, and because no G1 toy of her was ever produced she has no original Hasbro tech spec and therefore no officially rated weakness; in the fiction her vulnerability is her attachment to Daniel, which repeatedly drags her into rescues rather than fights she chose.

• Daniel Witwicky: an almost maternal bond that runs the length of season 3 and ends with the two binary-bonded as a Headmaster pair.
• Hot Rod: antagonistic but friendly, she is a calming influence who worries about him when he is away and needles him when he is not.
• Springer: regular field partner, the two are paired for the Skuxxoid chase and several season 3 missions.
• Ultra Magnus: the two survive the Dweller together and are captured together in "Only Human."

Marvel only shows her in the UK future timelines, and gives her a satirical origin absent from the cartoon: she is built in an alternate 1995 as a public-relations gesture to placate human protesters who call the Autobots sexist, then routs a Decepticon squad singlehanded after Optimus Prime tells her to stay back. The cartoon simply presents her as an established Autobot warrior with no origin story at all.

Survives the Battle of Autobot City, the destruction of Unicron and all of season 3, and ends the G1 cartoon binary-bonded to Daniel Witwicky as a Headmaster in "The Rebirth."

• Ron Friedman fought for her inclusion in the 1986 movie, citing his own daughter as a fan; she predates the separate Female Autobots of "The Search for Alpha Trion" by about ten months of production time.
• She never received a G1 toy. A prototype based on her earlier character model existed but was never tooled, and a proposed Action-Master-style BotCon 1996 exclusive died on the cost of steel tooling.
• She had two distinct 1980s character models: the earlier one underlies the unproduced toy and most of her Marvel appearances, while the movie, the rest of season 3 and the Japanese Headmasters use the final model.
• Asked about the design, movie designer Floro Dery said "Arcee is the naked mechanical equivalent of Princess Leia of Star Wars."
• Her finalised model was recycled for background female characters throughout the movie and season 3, including Junkion women and the Paradron Medics.
• In the original first draft of the movie her function was nurse and metal worker.

Where the cartoon, the Marvel comics and the toy bios disagree, or where a popular claim does not hold up. We record these rather than smoothing them over.

• Marvel's "Prime's Rib!" has Optimus Prime insist Transformers have no gender at all, which contradicts the cartoon's established Female Autobots.
• Her two character models produce visible inconsistencies between her Marvel appearances, "Only Human," and the rest of her season 3 material.
• Japanese continuity pushes season 3 back to 2010 and drops "The Rebirth" entirely, so her Headmaster partnership with Daniel never happens there.
