Profile
Rampage is not a Predacon by choice and not really a person by design. He was created as Protoform X, a Maximal experiment in replicating the immortal spark that had allowed Starscream to survive without a body, and the experiment produced a functionally indestructible being and an entirely sociopathic mind. Held at Colony Omicron, he escaped and killed everyone in it except a single security officer, Depth Charge. The Maximal Elders would not execute him because they could not, so the Axalon was quietly tasked with dumping his stasis pod into deep space.
He wakes on prehistoric Earth in "Bad Spark" and immediately tears Tarantulas apart. Megatron solves the problem the way nobody else could: he cuts out half of Rampage's spark and keeps it, so that crushing it in his hand causes Rampage agony on demand. Rampage serves the Predacons under torture, and Campbell Lane's voice performance makes that servitude sound like something worse than loyalty.
The series does one extraordinary thing with him. In "Transmutate", a damaged, childlike protoform with no beast mode and no comprehension befriends him, calls him "friend dark", and Rampage defends it in front of Megatron and vows to protect it. It is the only kindness in his existence and it lasts one episode; Transmutate destroys itself between him and Silverbolt, and Silverbolt asks the other Maximals to leave him alone to grieve. They do.
He is killed in "Nemesis (Part 1)" on the ocean floor, when Depth Charge drives an energon crystal into his spark and detonates it, the only method that could work. The two die together, which is the only ending either arc allowed.
Abilities and weaknesses
Transmetal giant crab beast mode with an alternate tank configuration; enormous strength and durability, and heavy artillery in all three modes. His defining trait is his spark, an artificial replication of Starscream's, which makes him effectively impossible to kill by conventional damage. Limits: Megatron holds half that spark and can inflict crippling pain at will, which is the only leash on him. Raw energon detonated inside the spark itself is the one demonstrated way to destroy him, and it requires the attacker to die too.

- Depth Charge: hunter and monster, an arc that begins with a massacre and ends only in mutual destruction.

Comics versus cartoon
Fun Publications' Transformers Collectors' Club fiction revived him after the cartoon killed him. IDW's Beast Wars material references Protoform X and Colony Omicron as backstory. No account contradicts the cartoon's version of his death.
Fate
Destroyed in "Nemesis (Part 1)" when Depth Charge stabs him with an energon crystal and detonates it inside his spark, killing them both. The destruction of his spark also frees Dinobot II, animated by the other half, to partially recover the original Dinobot's personality.
Trivia
- Voiced by Campbell Lane, a Vancouver stage and screen actor whose deliberately quiet delivery was chosen to contrast with the show's louder villains.
- His spark was written as an attempt to replicate Starscream's immortal spark, tying him directly to the G1 events dramatised in the season-one episode "Possession".
- The Transmetal crab-and-tank toy was one of the larger figures in the line, and its three-mode configuration is unusual for Beast Wars.
- Rampage was revived as a Transformers Collectors' Club exclusive toy long after the show, one of a small group of Beast Wars casualties given post-mortem figures.
- The name is reused from G1's Rampage, one of the Predacon combiner team members, with no in-fiction relationship.
