Anniversary discs
A 4K UHD steelbook on 17 November 2026, and a DVD on 13 October at $15.99, both from Shout! Factory, and the DVD does carry bonus features whatever you have read elsewhere. Here is the full spec sheet on each, the complete extras list, and which one is actually worth your money.
The short answer
There are two. The cheap one is a single-disc DVD, streeting 13 October 2026 at $15.99 against a $19.98 list: Region 1, 480i, 1.85:1, Dolby Digital 5.1, a slipcover, and a full legacy extras package.
The one to actually want is the 40th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K UHD steelbook, 17 November 2026, two discs, Dolby Atmos on both and Dolby Vision on the 4K. $39.99 direct from Shout, $49.98 on Amazon for the identical set. The new theatrical post-credits chapter is not among the DVD’s listed extras, and disc two of the steelbook carries an undescribed “Animated Coda (TBD) (2026)” that nobody has tied to it.
Correcting the record
Yes, it has bonus features
Two of the largest Transformers news outlets reported that this release carries no bonus features. Neither had a source for that. Both appear to have inferred it from the 85-minute runtime printed on the packaging, reasoning that a disc with extras would list a longer total.
The distributor’s own product listing shows a full legacy extras package. The runtime figure refers to the feature, which is what runtime figures normally refer to.
It is worth saying why this matters beyond the one fact. A restated inference is not a report, and once one outlet publishes it, the aggregators copy it and it becomes what everyone “knows”. If you were about to skip this release because you read it was bare-bones, that is the reason, and it was wrong.

This is the legacy supplementary package that has travelled with the film across previous anniversary editions. Nothing on this list is newly produced for the 40th. If you own the 30th or 35th anniversary release, you very likely have all of it already.

Is there a 4K steelbook?
Yes, and it is open for pre-order. The 40th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K UHD Steelbook is live on Shout! Factory’s own storefront, dated 17 November 2026, catalogue number 1000863911, UPC 826663270624, Region A, PG. Two discs, a 4K UHD and a Blu-ray, both with a new Dolby Atmos mix and Dolby Vision on the 4K.
For most of August this was a rumour, and we said so on this page. It rested on a single social-media post citing a retailer listing, with nothing from Shout, Universal or the distributor’s storefront to back it. We told you to wait rather than pre-order the DVD on the assumption you could upgrade later. The listings opened on 31 August and the date in that original leak turned out to be exactly right.
One detail the leak did not get right, and it is the one worth knowing: the price. Eleven days of coverage repeated $49.99 off that same tweet. Shout’s own store has it at $39.99. Amazon has the identical set at $49.98. Same two discs, same date, ten dollars apart, so check both before you commit!
Our read
Confirmed, and it is the edition to buy. If you held off on the DVD because of what we said here in August, that call worked out. Pre-order from Shout at $39.99 unless you have a reason to prefer Amazon.

Which edition you actually want
An honest recommendation, given the above. The DVD is a cheap anniversary keepsake with a good extras package, not a presentation upgrade. The steelbook is the presentation upgrade. Buy accordingly.
- Own nothing, want it cheap: the 40th Anniversary DVD does the job at $15.99 and the extras are genuinely good.
- Want the best picture: an existing Blu-ray edition beats this disc outright. It is standard definition.
- Want the 4K restoration at home: the 4K UHD steelbook, 17 November, is the only home release that carries it.
- Want a steelbook: it is real and open for pre-order. $39.99 from Shout, $49.98 on Amazon.

The distributor listing shows the full legacy extras package: the Nelson Shin, Flint Dille and Susan Blu commentary, the Til All Are One documentary, three archival featurettes including The Death of Optimus Prime, animated storyboards, and the original trailers and TV spots.
Not on the DVD, and not confirmed on the steelbook. The DVD’s listed extras do not mention it. Disc two of the 4K steelbook does carry a new item listed only as "Animated Coda (TBD) (2026)", which Shout has not described. It is a 2026 animated piece on the release that follows the theatrical run, but nobody official has said it is the Fathom chapter, so we are not claiming that it is.
The theatrical re-release is presented in restored 4K. The DVD is standard definition at 480i and does not carry it. The 4K UHD steelbook dated 17 November is the home release that does, with Dolby Vision on the 4K disc and Dolby Atmos on both.
Only if you want something on a shelf before November. The 30th and 35th anniversary Blu-ray editions beat the 40th Anniversary DVD on resolution and carry much of the same supplementary material, but the 4K steelbook arriving 17 November beats all of them and is the first release to carry the restoration and an Atmos mix. Check what you already own before buying anything.
